Dr. Mehdi Khoobi

 Professor of the Tehran University of Medical Sciences

Dr. Mehdi Khoobi is professor of the Tehran University of Medical Sciences. He was born in Ghaemshahr city, Mazandaran, Iran in 1981. He received his Bachelor of chemistry (2005) from Arak University, Master of Organic Chemistry (2007) from Yazd University, and Ph. D. in Organic Chemistry (2011) from the Zanjan University. His doctoral thesis was about anticancer activity of coumarin derivatives bearing nitrogen and sulfur enriched heterocyles, which was co-supervised by late Prof. Abbas Shafiee and Prof. Ali Ramazani. He joined the Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2011 and he was promoted to associate professor in 2015. In 2021, he moved to Department of Radiopharmacy at Faculty of Pharmacy, Tehran University of Medical Sciences.

His research program spans organic and inorganic chemistry with a primary emphasis on the synthesis of multi-target-directed agents against cancer and Alzheimer’s disease. His research program covers development of new methods for the preparation of biologically active compounds based on the C-H bond activation as well as application of enzyme in organic reaction. He is also passionate about cancer theranostics and his recent projects have focused on the design and preparation of multifunctional intelligent nanotheranostic.

He serves as editor of the Journal of Sciences, Islamic Republic of Iran (JSCIENCES). Honors and awards include distinctive young researcher in 18th Avicenna Festival (2013), top 100 researchers of the country selected by Iran Science Elites Federation (2015-2021), the world’s top 2% scientists selected by Stanford University in 2021 and world’s top 1% scientists of ESI.
